"The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" is an anime series about Haruhi Suzumiya, an egocentric girl who the world literally revolves around, and her friends who try their best to deal with the sometimes embarrassing, sometimes dangerous, and sometimes supernatural situations she creates. The series became famous for its interesting story, excellent production values and shameless fanboy pandering. It's a modern classic!
